“Mr. Chicoy, could we fix it—I mean—could you fix it so you don’t call me Pimples anymore? ~ The Wayward Bus, John Steinbeck

Have you ever been labeled by the way you look, something you did, or something that happened to you?

If you have then you know how limited it can make you feel—to the point of frustration. Maybe you feel so disturbed you don’t even want to try to rise above it.

Maybe you start living the label instead of from who you really are. Who you were born to be, do what you were created to do, make the world a better place in a way that only you can, do for people what you alone can do.

Jesus certainly knew what that was like. It made it difficult for him to be known for coming out of Nazareth—where nothing good came from (John 1:46). Yet, he did not let labels keep him from fulfilling God’s dream for his life.

Today, take a few minutes and consider what your life would look like, how it would be different, how you would be different if you shook off the labels other people have slapped on you. Consider how the Father, who has good for you and nothing bad for you, sees you.

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord. “plans to prosper you, and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jerimiah 29:11
